The Cobras – An Electrifying Club Date Captured

The Cobras – Caught Live At The Continental – Jungle Productions JR-1014

The celebrated Austin, Texas blues/rock group initially formed as Paul Ray & The Cobras, until Paul Ray retired from playing, indeed let loose with a rollicking party that is secured via this exciting collection!  If an idyllic club date can be summed-up in 16 songs, then this is the prototype for that model.

Released in 2020, having been recorded in late January, 1981, this set encapsulates the band at the pinnacle of their lofty capacities.  Here, Denny Freeman plies his considerable guitar skills, along with “Smokin’” Joe Sublett and Luke McNamee on killer saxophones, Leland Parks on rumbling bass, Rodney Craig on rock solid percussion plus vocals, with “Junior” Medlow Willaims, the enthralling definition of class, sass, and magnetism fronting the proceedings with his dynamic vocal proficiencies.

This engrossing show was akin to a higher education degree in the blues, R&B, soul, and certainly rock-n-roll.  There is nary a regional U.S. genre of music listed immediately above that is not more-than-respectfully addressed and presented with all the energy this renowned band had in the tank.

This CD is musical merrymaking across its bountiful landscape, and one that brings the swagger and fun to greater and greater heights with each listen!

Below is the running track order of this impressive collection.  This is highly recommended music!
