Joe Liggins & The Honeydrippers - Jump Blues And R&B Virtuoso’s Finest
Joe Liggins & The Honeydrippers – Joe Liggins & The Honeydrippers – Specialty Records SPCD 7006
This 25-cut 1990 CD collection from Specialty Records’ The Legends Of Specialty Series by urbane jump blues piano man, singer, and songwriter Joe Liggins is an enticing gathering of his phenomenal Specialty Records sides from his extremely fertile 1950-1954 era with the label.
Great hits abound here, including a tremendous re-creation of his 1945 smash for the Exclusive Records imprint, “The Honeydripper,” a tune that originally scaled to the top of the charts for a staggering 18 weeks.
“Pink Champagne,” a song that rose to #30 on the prestigious pop chart is also presented, along with “I’ve Got A Right To Cry,” another terrific outing that, along with “Pink Champagne,” both sold in excess of one million units.
The rollicking “Rag Mop” is here, as are further romping R&B chart successes that make sitting back and absorbing Liggin’s genius a welcome pleasure.
Below are the running tracks of this superlative CD.
