Essential Blues Recording
Albert King – King’s Blues Genius Unfurls
Albert King – The Best Of Albert King – Stax Records FCD-60-005
This 1986 13-song CD finds King at the absolute height of his powers, vocally and with his guitar Lucy, on a selection of cuts that hold up well in presenting the blues superman in his finest brilliance. These Stax Records label tunes were remastered by Danny Kopelson for this release, and the sound across all the selections is bright and stunning.
King sears and slashes with his guitar forays, vocally conveys his subject matter with confidence and vitality, and the assembled backing musicians (including those spectacular horns) are the ideal associates for King’s blues visions.
Found here are the various blues moods that King so effectively was able to fashion and grant, and there is not a song here that doesn’t merit the “Best Of” status that the CD’s title advocates.
Whether one is already a committed Albert King fan, or someone looking to understand what the fuss is all about, pick this one up, place it in your CD player, and let King’s unrivalled blues come to you. It’ll be time very well spent.
